We caught up with James, graphic designer at Studio Illicit, to grab a quickfire rundown of his thoughts on what makes a great website design.
One: Great hero imagery. It’s important to engage your audience in their first few seconds of browsing. A hero image is the visual that sits atop a webpage, and is the first thing your visitor sees. Therefore you need a video, eye catching text, or good photography/illustration to stand out and get your message across.
Two: Strong colour palette. A strong brand identity is everything, so be sure to make your site stand out and pop. Colours also help towards building a content hierarchy by focusing attention on the key information you want your audience to see. Finally, colour helps to set general mood and tone, so it can’t be ignored.
Three: Consistency across the whole website. For example, are your photos shot on the same day or by the same photographer? Is the typography (headings and body text) consistent in font size and style? These two examples alone can bring a night-and-day difference to your website that help you to stand out from the crowd.
So there you have it: using these quick and simple tips can bring life and professionalism to your website, so always consider them with any online project. You’ll be thankful that you did.
