The Illicit Account: Autumn 2026

James and Amy at work in the Studio Illicit studio under the pink SI neon

Here’s a quick dispatch from the studio to blow away the cobwebs. 🍁 👻

We’ve got new clients, a couple of ideas that escaped onto the web (and travelled further than expected), plus a little of what we’ve been pushing throughout the year.

Well, that took off

Designers James and Amy have been putting their hot keyboards to good use with two new pieces.

Amy’s been thinking about AI and creativity, specifically how we make the most of increasingly capable tools without outsourcing the judgement, taste and critical thinking that make creative work good in the first place.

James, meanwhile, has been looking at animation and the small details that can make the difference between a website that feels considered and one that feels a bit… cheap. Turns out quite a few people agreed with him. The piece went a little bit viral, which we’re trying to be normal about.

New clients

Several new names have been coming through the studio doors lately. Here are three of them keeping us busy.

Huntsham

Huntsham is a farm and food business with exceptional animal husbandry at its heart, and the kind of produce that makes you take Sunday lunch seriously. We’re giving the whole thing a refresh, with a new brand and WooCommerce site getting ready to launch ahead of the Christmas rush. Good timing, as it happens.

PMR Architecture

PMR is a multi-award-winning architectural practice working across Brighton, Devon and beyond, with a portfolio of beautifully considered buildings and spaces. They’re very good at transforming spaces. We’re returning the favour with a full rebrand and new website.

Niaski

Artist and designer Nia combines cats and art history, putting a feline spin on some of the art world’s most recognisable faces. Her work can be found everywhere from The Warhol and the Barbican to The Hepworth. We’re building her a new Shopify site. There’s a cat pun in there somewhere, but instead, here’s a kitty pictured modelling one of her pieces.

Illicit Amplify

Finally, we launched our Illicit Amplify service back in the summer and have spent the last few months making it bigger and better.

CRO, search, AI visibility, UX. Basically, all the stuff that happens after a website goes live and everyone stops paying attention (or at least you think). It’s about getting more of the right people to a site, then turning more of those visits into actual business.

We’ve been using Amplify to find where sites could be doing more, then getting stuck in and making it happen: our own site, our clients’, and increasingly ones we didn’t build in the first place. Turns out launching a website is really only the beginning.

Want in? Just say the word. 👇

That just about wraps things up. Enjoy autumn while it lasts, and we’ll see you again when we’ve all forgotten what daylight looks like 👋 ❄️
